Easy Recipe : Fried Green Tomatoes

Our easy recipe this time is fried green tomatoes, yup nothing wrong with tomatoes, this recipe just show us that even tomatoes could be delicious snack. The tomato is originated from the South American Andes and its use as a food originated in Mexico, and spread throughout the world following the Spanish colonization of the Americas. Tomatoes contain the carotene lycopene, one of the most powerful natural antioxidants. Lycopene has also been shown to improve the skin's ability to protect against harmful UV rays. A study done by researchers at Manchester and Newcastle universities revealed that tomato can protect against sunburn and help keeping the skin looking youthful. Beside lycopene, at general tomatoes also contain vitamin C, and vitamin A. So in this recipe some creation showed for making easy meal based on tomatoes.


Ingredients :
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 cup yellow cornmeal
  • 1 pound green tomatoes, sliced 1/2 inch thick
  • 1/2 cup canola oil
  • kosher salt


Directions :
  • Place the flour, eggs, and cornmeal in 3 separate shallow bowls. Dip the tomatoes first in the flour, then in the eggs (letting any excess drip off), and finally in the cornmeal, pressing gently to help it adhere.
  • Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Working in batches, cook the tomatoes until golden, 1 to 2 minutes per side. Transfer to a paper towel–lined plate. Season with ½ teaspoon salt before serving.
  • Serve for 4 people
